They would probably count company profits which you could have drawn as "notional
income". The means tested benefits rules are a lot stricter than tax rules (they can
even count loans as income!).
If your income is below £11,000 (more if you have a partner/kids) you may also get
some Working Tax Credit.
Post on uk.gov.social-security if you want a more definitive answer.

I don't think so.
You need to be in receipt of benefits.
