Hello,
I am new to this group. I guy named John Boyle gave a response in 2004
to the questions I have below but I am looking for a bit more detail,
can John or anyone else help?
1) If a transfer is made from one bank to another, with the wrong name
but correct account details, will it still go through? Is this true
from a website to a bank?
2) Are bank transfers all done electronically, or is there some manual
intervention if the amount is over a certain number?
3) Are my personal deatils behind my bank account number confidential?
Can a website contact my bank and ask for personal details for a given
account number? i.e. check my name and address or is that confidential
information? I know that forn credit cards the address can be checked.
many thanks for your help
Andrew

If this is by a hand written bank giro credit then it will probably get
spotted.

Normal electronic transfers instigated by internet banking etc., that
are instigated by you will probably get through without anybody
noticing. Larger amounts sent by the likes of CHAPS etc., might have a
human involvement to check details somewhere along the line and will
probably be spotted. Regular Standing Order payments will also likely
get through and regular BACS credits, such as wages etc.,. without any
bother.

Yes.

No.

no

Yes.

Hi John,
The sitaution is this: my cousin has an account with an on line poker
site that I have been using (he has not used it for a long time, but
doesn't know I've been using it) I want to withdraw some of my winnings
from that account via bank transfer direct to my bank account, if I
give (on line) his name with my bank details will it get to me?
cheers

I think not.
Won't he have had to register a card or account with the website?
I believe the winnings would be paid into the registered card. However as I
do not gamble on these sites I am prepared to be told different.
By the way you have committed fraud!

ahem!
you are given a choice of payment method, the only details registered
on his account (now!) are bank details - mine.
Its not a huge amount of cash (unfortunately) but if I tell him what
I've been doing he'll start wanting to see some of it as commision or
beer money etc, etc !

I don't blame him!! What would have happened if you had lost money?
Would you have paid him off or let him stew??

that was done by card. but the option is there to change details.
details have been changed.....also, Eric, I could have only lost the
money I put in myself, so he wouldn't have been out of pocket as the
account was pretty much empty when I started.

I guess that your pocket may be similarly
"pretty much empty" right now - so please empty
out all your loose change and hand it over!!
Is that OK? - Yes?!

becuase when it was set up initially we both used to sit there together
and play the hands, then we kind of lost interest for a while. When I
got interested again I used that account initially becuase it was easy
to do so, with the intention of setting my own up but never got round
to doing it.

The winnings are his. It's his account.
If you want to gamble get round to setting up your own account.
