I think you need to speak to an accountant / tax advisor on this
matter.

I would guess that it could be possible to claim principal residence
status (i.e. one for you and one for your ex-wife) on both properties
for at least part of the period involved.

But I would'nt stick my neck on the line over this.

sorting out all the figures for me.
