I opened an ISA with Abbey about 4 years ago.
Was wondering now open a second cash ISA with another bank - and that
way put away £6000 in one year - would that be possible?

Nope, you can only put money into one cash ISA in one tax year, max
£3000. (You can also put £4k into a stocks/shares ISA .. including bonds
or gilts, which =you= may regard as nearly as good as cash).
You missed your chance, you could have put £3k in to one on April 5th,
and done it again on 6th .. now it's too late.

No. You can only "put away" a maximum of £3k into cash ISAs in any
one tax year, and all of it must go into the same ISA, you can't put
part of it into one and the rest into another.
You can keep the existing one open and open a new one this year,
provided you have not already contributed to the existing one
this year.

I do wonder why there's this thing about people not using ISAs because
they're "complicated".
The limits =A33000 for a cash mini, what's so complicated or obsure
about that?

You can have as many Mini cash ISAs as you like, but you can only put
money into one in any tax year.

Because you cannot replace money you take out..?
Many people don't undestand this. What is simple for Gordon Brown is
not so simple for ordinary folk who do not revel in detail.
