I find that my wife still has Scottish Hydro share certificates. I presume
that they should have been replaced with Scottish and Southern Energy ones
many years ago. Her dividends still arrive OK.

Maybe, but share certificates are not always reissued when a company
changes its name. Check with the Registrar.

We have had no reason to look at the share certificate for years until we
decided to put our paper shares into nominee accounts. From the dividend
records the name was changed around 1999. Even by the present standards of
Royal Mail this is a late delivery if new certificates were issued.

But wasn't this following the merger with Southern Electric rather than a
simple name change?

I phoned the registrars this morning and their explanation was that new
certificates had been issued after a bonus issue and that they did not want
the expense of issuing new certificates "that might get lost" after the
merger. In fact the bonus issue was in June 1994 just before we moved house.
My wife's share certificate have the old address on them.
Derek.
