| Water companies: different tariffs (metered customers): standingvs unit charge [message #386978] |

Do any water companies offer different tariffs? My water bill (Yorkshire
Water) has quite a high standing charge and a low unit charge. My water
consumption is quite low, and therefore the standing charge is a high
proportion of my water bill (65%). Apart from the side issue that this
does not encourage saving water (which would seem to be quite a high
priority), I wanted to see if there was another tariff with a lower
standing charge and a higher unit charge. However, Yorkshire Water
inform me that they do not offer any alternative tariffs. Does anyone
have any experience of water companies offering different tariffs to
metered customers, possibly based on usage?
I'm sure there's an Off-something that I could write to, but thought I'd
post here first.
TIA
Allan

You say you are low consumption, but you do not quote any figures. In
our last six-monthly bill from United Utilities, we had consumed 37
cubic metres. Our standing charges (including surface water drainage)
come to just about exactly 40% of the bill, compared to your 65%.
