I have recently took in my daughter who has seperated from her husband.
I have discovered she has debts and she is getting letters from her
creditors on this. Being as her surname is different to mine, is there
any risk to my credit rating with this. Worse still is there any risk
of balifs removing my property from my house to cover her debt?

No.

Legally no, but they can always make a mistake and take
something that they shouldn't. If they do this you should be
entitled to it back, but this might not always be a satisfactory
outcome.

don't let it get that far. if she can't keep up payments, she should speak
to the creditors and tell them she is skint.
creditors know they can't get blood out of a stone. often, they will stop
charging interest and accept a reasonable offer to reduce debts by
instalments.
a bailiff would be the option after a county court judgment has been
granted. but, if she is sued in the county court, she should admit the debt
is owing and then provide details of her financial circumstances.
if she has £10 of disposable income a week and no savings, for example, the
court would not say "pay £5000 immediately." that would not be reasonable.
the court might say "pay £5 a week" and the creditor would have little
option but to go along with that.
but, if she ignored the court papers, she WOULD be ordered to pay
immediately. there would then be a load of hassle trying to reduce the
payments.

To add to the other replies, there is an excellent forum for debt
issues here - <URL:http://boards.fool.co.uk/Messages.asp?bid=50079> -
TMF dealing With Debt board.
Many of the people have been there, done that, & got the T-shirt, so
the advice is from people who have a detailed knowledge of the
subject.
More links on my webpage

The question of bailiffs removing someone else goods came up on
uk.legal or uk.legal.moderated recently so search there.
Best of luck
