Standard Life shares [message #382910] Fr, 21 April 2006 10:58
PigPOg
Hi, can anyone advise please?

Just received my allocation of SL shares (just shy of 4,000) and I'll
probably cash them to help make-up the shortfall with my endowment.

I should first say that I'm a financial dimwit and I've never had
shares before so I don't know how to cash them in or when is the best
time to ditch them. I was thinking of searching the Internet to find
out how other company (e.g. Scottish Widows) share values have
performed after flotation as some indication of when the best time to
sell is. Can anyone recommend a body who I can sell the shares
through?

On the other had - I might just hang on to them if they are not worth
very much.

Is there an FAQ for this newsgroup?

Any help/comments would be most appreciated.

Cheers,
Simon

I think he's referring to an FAQ. Not very helpful was it?

If I recall, from a previous letter from Standard Life, they were going
to provide a way of selling the shares.

Might be worth giving them a call

Maybe he knows that you generally go round wishing a lot, if you do does
it work?

Thanks for the reply Ed. Think I will give SL a call as there are a
few basic questions that I want answered eg. Taxation on any shares
sold etc.

Simon

The Proposal, p10, para 1:

"Eligible Members who according to our records are resident in a
Permitted Country on the SGM Date will be able to choose whether to
keep the shares they receive as a demutualisation entitlement or to
have all of those shares sold on their behalf on flotation"

Thanks for that Mike but the wording is "on flotation". What happens
if I wish to sell say, two months after floatation. Can I appoint my
own vendor (if thats the right term)?

Cheers,
Simon

They're your shares so you can do what you want with them. They're
independent of your SL investment and I doubt that SL would be able to
help you with them after flotation.

There are any number of ways to sell your shares and I'll sure someone
else will be along soon to advise you what's the best way for someone
who wants a quick and easy sale.

Stickems.
You have not received any shares. The voting has only just begun. Don't
pre-empt the result. You are counting chickens.

It only needs 1 vote over 25% to vote 'NO' and it won't go through.
