| Security lapse at UK e-tailer [message #390268] |

I know this isn't breaking news. A few weeks ago my Goldfish mastercard was
cancelled due to "its security having being compromised". It turns out that
thousands of Mastercard and Visa card details were hacked from a UK
e-tailer - hence the welcome action by Goldfish.
Does anybody know which e-tailer it was?

I raised this issue in this forum a couple of weeks ago.
Do you live in California?
If not you may never know.

At the time I also found it inexplicable why only two banks, Clydesdale
and Goldfish, had been targeted.
And, initially, only Mastercard.
Perhaps the truth will out someday

I have seen *rumours* that say it was Comet, but nothing definitive. Also
read today in the news that WHSMith have left thousands of old debit and
credit card slips at a dump!

I don't think it was either of them, as neither holds the details of the
card concerned (to my knowledge!).

If we are talking about WHS Winchester then the matter was far worse.
The receipts, dating back many years and many showing the full card
number with no redaction, were left outside the store for disposal.
Store management were alerted and did nothing to remove the material for
over 24 hours. At least two bags of material remained unaccounted for -
having been removed by members of the public.
