rydex & profunds traders

rydex & profunds traders

I tend to trade etf's (iwm/spy) long and short thru the year. Done
alright and have been thinking of using profunds or rydex since I
can't go short in my roth ira.

Anyone here trade profunds or rydex? Why would I pick one over the
other? Rydex seems to be cheaper on the expense side.

Also - any advantage to leaving Ameritrade and putting the money
directly at Rydex or Profunds? I know the trades would be a little cheaper but
I like having it alll in one place.

I trade Pro. Not Rydex. Check comparison of these by a Salil who
trades both:

There is bulletin board where lot of Rydex & Pro traders hang out
including me.

Yes. You will not have to depend upon trade \"cut off\" time of
Ameritrade.

Jun,

Thanks - the site is free. Which I love!!

I trade every few weeks so 'cut off' time isn't that important to me.

Can you trade the short funds for pro in a IRA? I heard you need to
be able to open margin and I can't do that in IRA's.

Is that just BS???

The reason you can trade these funds in an IRA is because YOU don't use
margin (forbidden), rather they accomplish a similar thing via options
(allowed), and maybe also they can even short for you without you
breaking rules. I wonder if new rydex hedge funds are allowed for IRA
- you may save work with their simple long/short rystx or fancy rymsx.

Anyway, having a native account in profunds or rydex lets you avoid the
min. holding period rules of a broker.

I only tried rydex account some time ago, and the human factors were
extremely primitive. No sweeping of distributions and no help in
coming up with tax basis, often messed up due to your need to reinvest
distributions with the lack of sweep. Felt unwelcome in many ways, yet
I think rydex had the most interesting ideas put into funds. Profunds
had more complete set of simple minded funds... may have changed since.
