Anyone with Fidelity?
am 21.04.2005 01:18:28 von berry
I have my own IRA (30k now) and am 69 (female). I'm in 3 funds---Bal.,
Divid.Growth and DivInternational. Of course, everything has been
going down
the past few days. But even when up a little, I still get almost
nowwhere in Div.Growth. Any other safe ideas? Or should
I just hang in there? (am retired and so is spouse) Have to
start withdrawing this year from the IRA.
Thanks...

I always liked Fidelity Value Fund, and I still do.

If I were you I would exchange all three into Fidelity Cash Reserves. Then
contact Oakmark or T. Rowe Price and ask them to send you an IRA Transfer
Form. When you get the form you can have the money transferred to T. Rowe
Price Capital Appreciation Fund or Oakmark Equity and Income Fund.
Fidelity Dividend Growth has underperformed in it's category for the past 2
calendar years and is near the bottom of it's category for the past 3 years.
Time to leave. Fidelity Balanced has done much better in it's category, same
with Fidelity Diversified International. If you want to stay with Fidelity
you might think about at least switching Dividend Growth to Balanced.
Another poster suggested a short term municipal bond fund. That would be
dumb and most likely Fidelity wouldn't even allow it. You just don't put tax
free investments into an IRA.
If the stock markets are trending lower then you can expect your funds to
trend lower as well. I wouldn't give up on funds because stocks are the best
way to preserve spending power over time.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies. I think I will stick with Fido
BUT switch from DivGrowth to Bal.
Anything is better than DG.
Thanks again............
