Qwest Communications has increased it's offer for MCI to $9.7 billion. The
company has a market cap of $6.5 billion and debt of $17.3 billion. I can't
imagine why MCI won't take their offer seriously.

Just a couple of years ago, Qwest sold off its Yellow Pages business at
a fire sale price of $7B, but I've heard that the Yellow Pages is more
profitable than the long distance business. One buyer was the Carlyle
Group (comments, conspiracy theorists?).
