"Thrilled?" No.
But satisfied, yes.
One good thing that will come out of this disaster is a general
realization that the ridiculously inexpensive price of gasoline in the
1990's is over, and that we should adjust our lifestyle accordingly.
And the silver lining is that those of us who had invested in natural
resource funds (or energy funds) have profited. I continue to rate
natural resource funds and energy funds a hold.
The money we spend on fuel is money we can't spend on other things,
which will slow down our economy. But at the same time, businesses that
use gasoline-powered vehicles (deliveries, sales, etc.) will have to
pass those gasoline price increases on to the consumer in the form of
higher consumer prices.
Result: stagflation.
