A Fascist leader would have:
- Declared martial law and a strict curfew to dissuade hoodlums
- Ordered Governor Blanco to get the fuck out of the way
- Replaced the mayor of New Orleans with a "commissar" (maybe Giuliani)
who knows how to deal with city emergencies
- Commandeered every private bus and truck in Louisiana. Take them away
at GUNPOINT from their owners.
- Put those trucks and buses to work evacuating the poor and elderly
from New Orleans.
- Shut down the French Quarter at gunpoint. All those "hurricane
parties" are to be stopped and everybody leaves the city or gets arrested.
- Issue shoot-to-kill orders at the very MOMENT that Hurricane Katrina
hits. Random shootings of looters would have stopped the violence
before it even started.
We could have cut thru all the bureaucratic red tape, evacuated the
city, and stopped the violence in its tracks. If we had a leader who
could do what needed to be done without interference.
This is one time when our vaunted "separation of powers" and
"federalism" and "civil liberties" have gotten thousands of people killed.
In an emergency situation like this one, you NEED temporary dictatorial
powers.

You don't have to be a fascist to be effective, but it does help.

LOL! Blame everybody except for Bush! Everybody gets to share the blame,
but the largest should rest with DHS/FEMA/Bush. You'd think they would've
reponded better to an expected disaster after spending countless billions
for unexpected disasters... 5 days, and everybody in NO would've been wiped
out if it were a chemical/biological attack. And that's besides the
consistent funding cuts for levee projects since he took office.

This assumes there was sufficient resources and a willingness to use them.
Since a dictatorship is "control by whim," there is more than a small chance
that nothing would be done.

I thought that Baby Bush was a fascist, only a really lazy one

This is news that you might expect from a third world country. 10,000
expected dead.
Homeland Security Was Off Guard
Do ya think? Why? They knew a week before it hit land just where it was
going to hit. They knew that New Orleans was below sea level. They knew that
it was expected to be a category 5 hurricane. They expected a 28 foot storm
surge. What the f--k is wrong with your president and his administration?
I'm proud to be an American but I'm ashamed of our government. What a bunch
of screw ups and that is not limited to Hurricane Katrina.
You should be ashamed for trying to defend these people when you have to
close your eyes to the facts to do it.

They showed Bush on the UK TV news. He looked like a bewildered old man,
completely out of his depth. Much as he looked just after 9/11.
The TV News people in the UK are not doing him any favours. Most of them
are on the ground or water in New Orleans and have been from the
beginning. They made the point that Bush landed at Baton Rouge, 70 miles
away and the prosperous State Capital. He obviously does not fancy NO as
he still has not set foot there!
They also made the point that about 40,000 troops have been moved in, to
deal with a handful of looters, but only one doctor.
Someone said NO should be twinned with Baghdad.

The last time I checked, he won the election twice. You're a crazy nut.
This will most likely prove it: who killed JFK?

Should not the city fathers and/or the state "officials" known that there
was at least a 1 in 100 chance that a category 3 or greater would hit N.O.?
I bet none thought I would occur on his or her watch.

No, he won the presidency twice. He won the election only once, at
most. Of course cheaters won't admit that.

Lee Harvey Oswald and nobody else.
You're a crazy nut yourself, and this will most likely prove it: Did
we find WMDs in Iraq after 2002, and was Saddam plotting with Al Quada?

Apologize for your libelous implication. Hitler was a man of action
and would have never stood by and done nothing. The English
translation of his German nickname is "The MBA Chancellor."
