OT: The National Guard

In Massachusetts the National Guard is now being referred to as the
International Guard.
Anyone else notice this?
The National Guard makes no mention of this name change on their website
and a search didn't bring up a brance of the military called the
International Guard.

Probably political correctness, like African American, since the guard is
made up of many different races.
I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not
a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be
"African-Americans"?
Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a
European-American
because my great grandfather was from Europe.
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except
numbers.
The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like
the
United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television,
and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College
Fund,
Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America;
and see what happens!

Governor Romney and others while being interviewed by television reporters.

I thought it mighy be because they are being deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan,
etc.
But still no mention of it on their website.

I never heard of it, so I did a Google search.
Sure enough, a few folks are starting to call it the International Guard:
Maybe it's a subtle way to remind Americans that the National Guard has
fought overseas before. Thousands of National Guardsmen fought in
Vietnam and in the Gulf War of 1991.

Or of reminding the world that we are the worlds police force. Anyway, I
don't like it.

More like the world's keystone cops, judging by Iraq and now, New Orleans.

if you grew up around Palmer Park, maybe spent your entire life in a 10
block radius, how would you speak, who would you know, what are your
chances? this is "ghettoization". the "Panama Limited" and other trains
ran from NewOrleans to Chgo. and in the 20's and 30's brought tons of
black folks north for jobs. after WW2 the jobs started running out and
the white folks in power started building the high rises and a welfare
system to put the blacks on "Vertical Reservations". The concept of
slavery was a bad decision by our forefathers, the "reservation" idea
was a bad decision. 40 years after MLK's speech at the Washington
Monument and look where we are today, geez!
the US, white and black, has to get real about this. The ghetto in
NewOrleans got flushed away, which ghetto are all those people going to
move to next?

Don't worry, the sad part is that if they can't find a ghetto, they'll make
one.

Maybe they should call them "Team America: World Police." :-)

There was an unintentially funny example of this on the TV reality show
"The Amazing Race." A black contestant named Chip got to travel to East
Africa, and he started cheering how thrilled he was to finally be back
in Africa, the birthplace of his ancestors. Well, that shows how
ignorant he was. American black slaves didn't come from East Africa.
Besides, in the previous episode he had been traveling thru Egypt, but
it never occurred to him that Egypt is part of Africa too.
I also refuse to call the Sioux, Navaho, etc., "Native Americans." I
still call them "AmerIndians." Because no humans are truly "native" to
this or any other continent except Africa. Homo Sapiens originated in
Africa and conquered every other continent by settlement and force.

Would you care to consider Asia?

Ohio will love that.

LOL! ;-).
Good one ;-).

The Guard is as good and professional a force as exists at that level
in most places: remember this is not the Reserves. Somewhere like
Israel doesn't really have an equivalent to the NG: they use Reserves.
It takes 6-12 months to take a Guard Brigade up to full combat
readiness, as I understand it, which is pretty good going given what
that requires. They have performed creditably in Iraq and other
conflicts.
