the return of the $6000 invested will include the 3.5% you took off for
inflation. The million dollars you are suggesting you need will be in
todays dollars, but a million dollars then just won't buy what it used
to.

Saving $6000/month at a 7% return should grow to a million dollars in
38 years. Use PV formula in excel.

time is the biggest issue- saving 12,000 for 15 years, then letting it
grow for next 15 (without adding another dime) will do much better than
saving 6,000 for 30 years. The money contributed earliest is the money
which grows the most.
