Securities like funds but not funds?

Securities like funds but not funds?

am 29.09.2005 06:39:55 von Schultz

Hello, I like the diversity that mutual funds give me.

I currently look over a broad range of mutual funds.

I was wondering if there any securities out there besides mutual funds (open
or closed-end) that are basically a big aggregate of financial or other
assets, as opposed to, for example, an ownership interest in an ongoing
business? I am aware of futures---not my cup of tea.

Thanks for any help.

Closed end mutual funds.
ETF's (exchange traded funds)
Conglomerates like GE, there are others, Tyco comes to mind.
Hedge funds
Brokerages have "stock baskets" (you buy shares of a collection of
stocks, but you actually do own the stocks, unlike Mutual Funds, in
that you can take delivery of the stocks)
Variable Annuities (life insurance wrapped up with a mutual fund
investment)

Hard to beat Vanguard Mutual Funds though for low cost and good
performance though. With investing simple is better. Complicated means
high cost structure.
