Thanks for the India Fund Tip and I think you suggested JOF. What do
you think about CEE or TRF or TKF these days. Are you still with IF.
How are things going?

Hi Falcon,

Yes, I did suggest JOF but only for those looking to invest in Japan. I like
to leave the final decision to the interested party. IIF has been great.
One of my favorites this year has been LDF. Anyway, these funds can be
sudden death if you don't watch them closely. Be careful and get out at the
first sign of danger, you can always get back in later.

Things are going great. I've been here on this board for years, probably
twice as long as FundAlarm, maybe longer. Lot's of off topic stuff here but
I like that, there was a time when I thought it would be great if the board
was pure and on topic but I have changed my opinion. I hope you visit
often.

BTW....

am 30.09.2005 21:22:04 von Ed

....you asked which TRP fund would be a good replacemenr for PRWCX.
Answer, none. They have nothing else like it.

I have been thinking about that question myself for some time.
Equity Income, Value? I really prefer mid and small caps. I own TRMCX
already, I might put some of it there. I've already sold about 1/3 of PRWCX
and put it into Summit Cash Reserves. Maybe TRIGX will get some of it.

I can't believe that they would put PRWCX in the hands of rookies, but they
might do great things for the fund, who knows. I've been through 3 managers
of the fund already.

Thanks for both replies. I picked up ILF a while back to fill the
latin america portion, which has done quite well, as did IIF. I think
I picked up JOF the same day you suggested it and I thank you for the
tips. I also picked up IF where I am about dead even, not sure whether
to hold. I'm kind of itching to buy CEE, TKY or TRF, may see what
happens next week.
At this point, I think I will probably hold onto prwcx, but will not
add more. Might move some to LCORX at a later date.

now, if you open up your email program, you'll see this odd thing called
"news", if you configure that--news.name of ISP. com (see ISP
instructions for getting "newsgroups", the thing will start downloading
newsgroups(2-3 minute download) and then you can open the newsreader and
come on over to misc.invest.mutual-funds and(for example) you can also
go to places like alt.binaries.erotica.pictures.bigbutts(google won't
get you to that part of usenet. you'll just be amazed at what's going on
over here. this ain't the internet, hehehehe. kind of a break from stock
charts.
a step up from the newsreader in your email suite is going to a download
site and getting a freeware newsreader. as long as your over here take a
look at misc.invest.stocks, that's real wildwest. have fun

IF has been kind of flat for me too. Thinking of selling it. I was expecting
more from it with all the rebuilding and money that went there after the
sunami. BZF looks interesting. It is supposed to change to and open end
fund at the end of the year. It's trading at a 5% discount so if the price
holds up you'd get a 5% bonus at conversion.

Compare LCORX to FPACX.

Thanks Lead. Was a newsgroup junkie many years ago, but weaned myself
away to spend time doing other things. Configured many a news reader.
Am satisfied with posting through google. I'll take a look at the
stock group.

or TRF.

If you mean TKF, I own it in a contest.
As far as Russia/East Europe go I'd buy CEE before I'd buy TRF. That said,
it's already up 75% year to date and it may not be the best time to get in.
I would be more comfortable with Japan right now.

Hey Ed. I'm accessing the newsgroup via Google. We miss you over at
FA. I saw leads post to me saying that you hang out over here in the
wild west of the interest. I guess no chance that you'll change your
mind anytime soon about coming back. You know I have at least a couple
posts deleted a month by Roy. In fact I usually throw one up there,
when I know that the whole thread's going to get blown away anyway. But
I guess everyone's tolerance is different.

Well I made a bonehead or early (take your pick) move by taking a good
portion of my old 401k in August off the table and moved it to Stable
Value. I saw so much bad news, I can't believe that the US market
stayed up. Lead or MAC or Turn4up or name du jour said I should get
into JOF. But I was too cautious when I saw that it started shooting
straight up. [I missed your post on buying JOF] I'll probably sit out
October. By then I'll think the market is too high, so I'll probably
sit out November and December. Maybe I should just buy Treasuries and
be done with it.

I'll come back here for your advise Ed. Take care.

Ohhhhh! I thought it was rather quiet on FundAlarm. This is where ya'll
are hanging now. I've missed your guidance.

When my son saw that I was enjoying FA a couple of months ago, he said
usenet would blow my mind. He set up a couple of financial ones for me to
see. This was one of them.

I'm just learning this financial stuff somewhat like MaryLou on FA but
without as much time. I squeeze it in as best as I can. I try to lurk and
not get in the way but sometimes I'm so befuddled I have to ask questions.

I was afraid of JOF since I hadn't ever done a closed end fund. I guess I
can put a "sell if it goes to $x" think with Schwab. I tried to get in on
some action using EWJ etf but it had already gone pretty high.

I almost bought some EUROX last week but the it is very high and the 180 day
redemption restriction makes it even less attractive. Maybe I can overcome
my fear of the closed end funds and make a play there.

Great to hear from you.
I felt the same way you did and sold some core funds that raised my money
market allocation to about 45%. I don't do gold or gold funds because I
never get it right.
Foreign funds (diversified) are doing way better than US funds so I went
looking for what appeared to be the strongest foreign funds.

Latin American Discovery Fund LDF and India Fund IIF are among my best
performers and EWJ is starting to show some life.

On the stock side, some place most people would really just avoid, airlines.
AAI closed 2004 at 10.70 and it's up to 12.55 now. that's 18% but it dropped
much lower. I got in at $7.61 on 1/24/05 so those shares are up 65%. I
recently purchased EFJI at 8.70 and that looks like it will be a winner too.
The sore spots in my portfolio are Microsoft and Pfizer, at least they pay
dividends.

Thank you. Usenet can be pretty raw, it's not for everyone but there are
some good people here.

Japan and S. Korea could go higher. The are now employing cheaper labor in
China and they are manufacturing/exporting countries. Lower labor costs =
increased profits.

That's what's nice about the CEF's. CEE would be a great alternative yo
EUROX and there are no restrictions on selling.

You guys are too good for me to play with. I'm just hanging out trying to
learn and get tips.

It seems that you high powered players are using country and energy CEFs.
I've been looking at the country CEFs since Ed brought up JOF. I put it on
my watch list and its rocket ascent has me slapping myself for missing yet
another opportunity.

I've got cash available in a tax sheltered account. I'm not proud. I don't
mind making a play for 2 or 3 K. It makes up for the salary or 401
contribution that I don't have any more.

The more important your money is to you the less you should put it at risk.
Funds that rocket up can also rocket down, it's not easy. Keep in mind that
you usually only read about the winning picks and seldom read about the
losers. Don't do anything you aren't comfortable with. Another thing to note
is that you almost never hear about it when someone that picked a great fund
sells it.

Re: You can run but you can't hide...

You hit the nail on the head that my money is very dear. We have an
important need to leave an inheritance. We've been fairly good at saving
but could use to invest better. We were the ultimate in buy and hold, and
hold and hold...

Thanks for your cautions.

Gary, I was just kidding. I ain't taking a bunch of usenet guys to a
bar, they probably get in a fight and damn sure want me to pay.
besides, isn't it football season or something. ya no, STL used to have
