OT - Vaccine Maker Problem

OT - Vaccine Maker Problem

Bush asks for some scratch for flu vaccines.

The healthcare industry has obviously decided it is not worth their effort
to manufacture vaccines for U.S. citizens. This sounds like a problem to
me. The industry has decided products that require perpetual use such as
disposable and consumables are much mopre valuable. It sounds crazy, but I
think this problem needs to be solved. Why place our need for vaccines in
foreign hands? (According to CNBC, Chiron, our last vaccine maker, is up for
grabs) Perhaps our free markets will solve this issue...Why not just
nationalize the industry if the taxpayer has to, yet again, foot the bill
for this problem?

20 million jabs for $7.1 billion? that means $355 per flu jab. Sounds a
bit expensive to me. Are those pesky pharmaceutical companies making a
killing with this? :-)

And why 20 million? I thought there were 280 million people over there.
What about the other 260 million? It's going to pay to be a WASP again!

We get free flu jabs in the UK.

Not really, but I'm sure they're cheaper. The US pays more for drugs than
any other country in the world. By the people for the people, sure, a select
and relatively few.
