How can I research what was paid for a house the last time it was sold?
How can I research what was paid for a house the last time it was sold?

There are some houses in a few different states for which I would like
to find out what the selling price was the last time the house was
purchased.
Is there a general procedure or method that can be used regardless of
state? Are all real estate transactions recorded in some database
(presumably, with a different name or URL in each state) that's a
matter of public record?

Google for the county's auditor site. You can often find the selling price
& other info on that.
You can also get a subscription service such as Haine's Criss-Cross or Pace,
which allow you to search by various keys, but which cost $$$.

it's regionally different, sometimes differs by county in the same
state.
I have no idea what a county auditor is, but most of the more recent
sales prices here can be found at the property tax office's web
site ... (and I don't know wehter neighboring counties have such
a thing).
