At least one of my funds in the contest has had recent
distributions--maybe more than one--and I haven't had the time to
sit down and figure out how to bring my portfolio up-to-date. So
the above reflects the situation in which I own more shares that
my Yahoo portfolio reflects.

In real life I just go to the funds' web sites and get the
updated information, where they've done all the work for me. Here
I have to--what? Find out what day the distribution was given;
figure out how much the distribution was; multiply the total
number of shares by the distribution per share to figure out how
many new shares I have; figure out how to enter this all into the
portfolio and announce the change on this news group; etc. etc. I
am not sure what NAV to use--is it the price at the close of the
day/before beginning of the next day of trading? I suspect it is.
TK, could you give me some pointers here? I can do this but I
want to do it right the first time. I'm not even sure if the
Yahoo portfolio does this automatically for you (I don't think it
does).

I've been using the closing price of the next day of the dividend recording
to account for VFINX dividends. In Yahoo historical prices, however, the
dividend day is actually the reinvest day. (eg, 9/22 is the dividend
recording day, but 9/23 is the dividend day in Yahoo historical prices).
So, if you are using Yahoo, use the dividend day's closing price as the NAV
for reinvestment.

Nope, sorry. I have to do it manually for VFINX myself.
