Paypal

I have set up a paypal acct. Have used it a couple of times, one credit...
all went well.
However, that is through my credit card.... now they want me to 'verify' my
acct., which will give them access to my checking acct.... that saves them
the credit card fee. But, with a credit card, I can fight them if I have a
problem.. If I were to 'verify' my acct., and I had a problem, my money
would be gone from my checking acct and it would be much tougher to get any
of it back....
Just a note to others.....

Very true. Also, many emails from PayPal and eBay requesting
"verification" are scams and not actually from PayPal or eBay
at all. Right click on the link in the email; click on "Copy Shortcut",
and do a paste into, for example, Notepad to find out where the
link really goes.

Getting your account verified doesn't mean you can't use your credit
card anymore. My PayPal account was verified a long time ago and I've
never had my checking account debited. Well...except for one time when
I messed up, but that was my fault...although PayPal makes you go
through an extra step to use a credit card...anyway, the point is that
getting your account verified doesn't change anything significant for
you. You can still use your credit card through PayPal.

NEVER, NEVER respond to requests like those sent to you via email.
These are invariably spoofs, nowadays called "phishing." They're
counterfeit websites masquerading as the real thing, so you'll log in
there and give them your bank account numbers and other personal info.
If you want to log into Paypal, point your browser to their website by
name: www.paypal.com
NEVER log in to the site given to you in your email.

The same thing is true of official-looking emails from banks or other
financial institutions asking you to verify account information. By the way,
I would suggest replacing the word "many" in the above sentence by "all."
