NoEd, an experiment...

NoEd, an experiment...

am 04.01.2006 12:59:59 von Ed

....I'll call it beating the S&P500 for dummies. There is always a chance
that I'll get to eat humble pie but here goes.

Index, SPY 789 shares at 126.70, $99,966.30, cash remaining $33.70

Ed, SPY 789 shares at 126.70, $99,966.30, cash remaining $33.70

This is not a contest entry, just an experiment. I'll update it from time to
time and always when I make a trade. The index will not trade but it will
accumulate dividends as cash. I will trade and accumulate divs as cash.

Index:
1/3/06 buy 789 SPY @ 126.70.
Cash $33.70 Value $100,000

Ed:
1/3/06 buy 789 SPY @ 126.70
Cash $33.70 Value $100,000

Looks a bit like an unofficial entry to me, so I have put you in the
mimf2006 list, just "unofficially" of course :-)

You can if you want to but I'm only trying to illustrate a point I couldn't
get NoEd to understand.
At some point, if things go as planned, it will be impossible for the index
to beat me. At that point, if I get there,
I'll cease.

The object is to make some money, sell, buy back at a lower price getting
more shares than I started with. At this point the buy & hold SPY can't win.
I'll have more shares, get more dividends, and we'll each finish the year at
the same price. What I tried to get across to NoEd is that I don't have to
sell at a high or buy at a low. I just need to sell at a price where I feel
there will be lower prices ahead. If that happens, and it will, I'll buy
back in with the proceeds from the sale. The index can no longer win.

Ed. It sounds like a definition of timing to me, which is fine and it will
be interesting to see if you can use it to beat buy and hold. This is what
the NoEds, Elles and others say cannot be done.

I have put you in as a portfolio called Ed, but won't quote your results in
the weekly or monthly league tables unless you want me to. As you are going
to publish your deals here, I can put them into the portfolio to keep it up
to date. Alternatively I can give you the ID and password and you can put
them in yourself and see what everyone else is doing as well. You are doing
all the work of deciding on the deals anyway, so you might want to see how
you are doing.

No password and no ID. Thanks anyway. You are welcome to do whatever you
like with the info.

What is the point? I'm in a contest.

After reading David's post:

"Your transactions record looks really weird. Obviously you made a mistake
with the price of VIMSX the first time but surely you didn't need to do four
more transactions to correct it!
Note the "Modify" column on the far right with the magic words Edit-Delete.
All you had to do was edit the price."

Now go ask Mommy to tie your shoes for you.

It's right now. I don't use yahoo.

Making money.
What are you doing, trying to figure out where you are?

Its 10:00 on the east coast, and you keep responding to my posts. But you
don't have time to participate in trivial contest.

Wow you're stupid. I said I had no interest in your contest.
I said I had enough to do with my real stuff and the contest I am in.
I never said I didn't have time for your trivial contest.
No interest does not equal no time. Just like $0.90 does not equal $0.00.
Have you figured out where you are?

Its not my contest. Its the group's contest, a group that you post
profusely and that routinely brag that you have beaten the S&P since the
beginning of time. You were even afraid when you proposed your absurdity:
"There is always a chance that I'll get to eat humble pie but here goes."
The plain and simple truth is you can't backup your BS, and nothing scares a
BSer more than having others know they can't. You've been bluffing for a
long time. There is no debate that many others know you are a buffoon.
Time to go to work.

You can assume anything you like but you can't know.

I never said I've beaten the S&P500 "since the beginning of time".
How old are you anyway?

Tell me, if you're sitting outside with friends on a windy day, do they ask
you to insert ear plugs to eliminate that noise your head makes as the wind
enters into one of your ears and passes out the other?
