That's why all our jobs are moving to China and India. Why don't they
have the buildings pre-fab in China and ship over to Boston to be
reassembled by illegal Mexican laborers? I bet that would save even
more money.

I don't know about that, the people that built my pool used Mexican's, I
don't know if they were illegal or not, but the pool still cost plenty.

Cost a lot more if they use American labor. Don't ask don't tell. and
don't complain when all the jobs move overseas.

This job was done in my back yard. Some years I'd like to ship it overseas.
I told my neighbor he could have it, all he has to do is move it across the
street.

Where I live it is said that a swimming pool reduces the market value of a
property by around $50,000. People with young children and dogs will not
consider a listing with a pool.

It reduces the number of people interested, that's true, but it's really
for kids or a family anyway.
Our's is gunite so the dog has no liner to tear. Our current pooch doesn't
like to swim but the hotdog we had prior loved it.
Most people who aren't interested in a pool had one before, I'm sure of it.
I think I'd like it better in a warmer state.
Here in NE it has to be buttoned up every year and you gotta hope everything
is ok at start-up.
I open it mid-June and close it on the weekend after Labor Day.

Where is that?

In Columbus Ohio it will increase your value by about $10-$15k (if you're
looking at McMansions).

I am in Vancouver, Canada. But I have heard the same thing is true in
Indiana and some other places. A lot of families with children like pools,
as Ed said, but an equally large number, I guess, are afraid children or
dogs will fall in want nothing to do with them. I have heard of people
having their pools filled in with dirt and planted over before listing the
house so they can get a higher price and quicker sale.

An above ground pool fixes those problems.
No falling in and rip it down when selling (if you want)

If the quality of work was good, they were probably legal and members
of a Mexican construction union. I had problems with a construction
company that employed all temporary workers and ended up having almost
1,000 sq. ft. torn down and done over -- by the company's permanent
workers.
