short sale available?
am 01.03.2006 02:06:36 von irish
Hi:
I am trying to short a stock, but the (online) firm i normally trade
through says it is not able to find any shares available to borrow. I
called another firm and they indicate that the stock is ineligible; but
shortsqueeze.com is reporting approximately 300,000 shares are
currently short.
My question - has anybody else run into this problem? I suspect each
brokerage probably has its own set of rules. Does anyone know which
firms are more flexible?
Tx

Full service firms are usually better at getting the stock. Which stock is
it?

Flexible? It is the law in the USA ... one can not sell what one does
not possess ... except for certain very liquid index equities.

Turns out there is a rule that only 1/2 of 1% of a stock can be sold
short.

Some ETFs have short interest larger than the float.
