Gallup: More Than Half of Americans Reject Evolution, Back Bible

NEW YORK - A Gallup report released today reveals that more than half of
all Americans, rejecting evolution theory and scientific evidence, agree
with the statement, "God created man exactly how Bible describes it."

Another 31% says that man did evolve, but "God guided." Only 12% back
evolution and say "God had no part."

Gallup summarized it this way: "Surveys repeatedly show that a substantial
portion of Americans do not believe that the theory of evolution best
explains where life came from." They are "not so quick to agree with the
preponderance of scientific evidence."

The report was written by the director of the The Gallup Poll, Frank
Newport.

I'm almost in that 31%. I don't believe in the god of the bible, or any

the reason many people and scientists and teachers are now asking to
teach "intelligent design" is because genetic scientists have disproved
the story that men came from apes-monkeys. in fact , it is now known
that humans are closer to pigs than to apes -monkeys. it has nothing to
do with the number of chromosomes each have, it has to do with the
genetic make up inside those chromosomes. that is why you hear that
people get operations to have pig heart valves and kidney parts put into
them to save their lives, but doctors know ape-monkey parts will not
transplant like the pig parts will.
i suggest you read some biotech newsgroups to get up to speed on these
things instead of chanting the old communist mantra of ;" there is no
GOD we came from apes"

Hmmm, Einstein

Einstein believed the laws of nature were the god. Einstein believed in
the
Spinoza's god as he said ("To Albert Einstein's 70th birthday"
Sommerfeld 1949
page 103)

"Like Spinoza, Einstein denied the existence of a personal god"
("Einstein and Religion" Max Jammer 1999 page 47)

Einstein also said or wrote:

"I do not believe in immortality of the individual, and I consider
ethics to
be an exclusively human concern with no superhuman authority behind
it." "The
Human Side", Selected and Edited by Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman,
Princeton
University Press, 1979 Page 39.

The mystical trend of our time, which shows itself particularly in the
rampant
growth of the so-called Theosophy and Spiritualism, is for me no more
than a
symptom of weakness and confusion. Since our inner experiences consist
of
reproductions and combinations of sensory impressions, the concept of a
soul
without a body seems to me to be empty and devoid of meaning. "The
Human Side",
Selected and Edited by Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, Princeton
University
Press, 1979 Page 40

"My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that
a
vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for
the betterment
and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver,
especially a
law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment." Letter to
M.
Berkowitz, October 25, 1950; Einstein Archive 59-215

I like that you said 'almost' ;)

Perhaps that something you speak of is an incredible amount of time
(billions of years) combined with a huge environment (the earth's oceans
and continents, with trillions of trillions of organisms) in a constant
state of flux (several ice ages, continental shifts, atmospheric
composition changes, global calamities, etc.) Combine all that with the
inherent random (albeit rare) DNA errors in the cellular reproduction
process (which occurs trillions of times every minute of every day on this
big lively planet) and there you have it.

It's a very human tendency to substitute mythical spiritual forces
into any situation in which there is a lack of knowledge. People used to
think supernatural entities were responsible for almost everything that
they did not understand, from the stars in the sky, to the weather, to
disease, to human origins. It's a universal easy answer in the face of any
complex problem. However, history, and centuries of scientific exploration
and discovery, has shown us that this easy answer is NEVER the correct one.

Stop the bullshit with your so-called scientists and your quack science. =
To reject evolution is to reject the existence of DNA. In fact it is =
easier to deny the existence of gravity than to deny evolution. We know =

Darwin was one of the smartest people who ever lived. Not only were his =

Now we know why species evolve. Every living thing has DNA. DNA is our =
biological operating system and responsible for everything we are. When =
cells reproduce, DNA, because it is so complicated, sometimes does not =
reproduce exactly as the donor. It mutates. Millions of years of =
mutations made some species more compatible to their environment than =
for others. The species that mutated to best live in their environment =
survived and parented better mutations. The mutants that could not =
compete fell to the wayside, like Neanderthals, dinosaurs and saber =
tooth tigers

We see the products of mutations all around us. That is the reason we =
have problems with bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Antibiotics have =
been around since the 1940s. Antibiotics can kill 90 to 99% of the =
harmful bacteria. The remaining few percent were mutants that had, only =
by chance, DNA that made them resistant. These are the bacterium that =

These bacterium are only the product of 60 years of evolution. If we =

He was wrong about quantum mechanics, too.
It's no accident, LK, that in the creation epic a la Genesis,
God *saw*...the Creation required an *observer*.

Read _Einstein's_Moon_, in which it is recounted that Einstein
famously asked, "Does the moon only exist when someone looks at it?"
In the fullness of time QM answered, "Yes!" (Well, not really, IMO,
since the moon is macro, while the QM experiment was micro. Still,
it gives one to think, eh?)

BTW, there are recent thoughts that man may be able to create a real,
full-blown universe in the laboratory. It's been a while since I read
it, but I think Brian Greene reports that notion in one of his recent
books, perhaps _The_Foundation_of_the_Cosmos.

Also, BTW, Greene's book is currently posted in
alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.audiobooks, if you are interested.

there is no evidence that any species ever evolved into another
species. what darwin saw, back in his primitive days, was
"mutation"....DNA evidence already proved mankind did not evolve from
apes. you are just spouting the old communist -left wing religious
mantra. you have no PROOF only a BELIEF in evolution , even after it
has been recently disproved.

ha ha you guys remind me of my old geometry teacher. back in 1969 i read
in national geographic magazine that one of pathagerams theorems had
been disproved. the one about using light to measure great distances. he
did not know at the time that gravity from a star or large planet could
bend light and back in 69 it had just been discovered that light did
bend. therefore his distance calculations that had been used for
hundreds of years were wrong. when i first told my teacher this theorem
was wrong, he got red in the face and screamed at me, calling me a liar
and every name in the book. eventually , cnn picked up the story years
later and now it is common knowledge. the same thing is happening right
here with the evolution argument. it has been proven to be flawed and
wrong, but almost everyone who grew up memorizing it, is pig biting mad
when told they were taught something totally wrong. but, it will
eventually become common knowledge to the masses.

I bet you think a lot of things being taught in school are 'garbage.'

Multiplication? Fractions? The metric system? Algebra? Chemistry? Why
stop at biology.

Here's my favorite part of the article in light of your brilliant comments
on this thread:

"Several characteristics correlate with belief in the biblical explanation
for the origin of humans. Those with lower levels of education, those who
attend church regularly, those who are 65 and older, and those who
identify with the Republican Party are more likely to believe that God
created humans 'as is,' than are those who do not share these
characteristics."

(Ask someone to explain this quote to you before further making an ass out
of yourself.)

DNA evidence already proved mankind did not evolve from
> apes.

Are you a salesman by chance? I ask because salesmen are professional
bullshit artists that will tell you anything to prove their point and your
statement is an obvious lie. In fact DNA evidence has proven the exact
opposite. Ninety percent of a chimpanzee's DNA is IDENTICAL to that of a
human. Some scientists have stated that chimps are just a form of human
that evolved to better climb trees and hunt game than to use tools like our
ancestor homo erectus.

So stop making up crap and claiming it's fact. We have more proof that
evolution is a fact than we have proof that gravity exists.

It has taken EVOLUTION sixty years to produce antibiotic resistant
bacteria. If evolution can do that in a mere 60 years, it is not too
difficult to see how humans came about after millions of years of evolution.

Species do not evolve into different species, they produce offspring that
may mutate into different species. Evolution is the process where some
mutants can better survive their environment leaving less evolved species by
the wayside of archeological bit bucket.

Next time you see a Neanderthal, give him/her my best.

I read Greene's book, " the elegant universe" and I just finish a few
other interesting books, "At the Hour of Death" by Karlis Osis and
Erlendur Haraldsson" and "The Afterlife Experiments" by Dr. Gary E.
Schwartz. Another book I found interesting was, "Finding Darwin's God"
by Kenneth R. Miller. He's a professor of biology and coauthor of high
school and college biology textbooks. He believes in evolution, but is
also a Christian. He takes on Michael Behe and his, "irreducible
complexity"("Darwin's Black Box"), interesting book also.

I perfer to keep an open ming of this, god, no god, issue.

Yes, I read both of Greene's books. It's kind of fun to hear one read
