removals cost

Moving my stuff soon to another place, which is 30 miles away in
Somerset.
Thinking of asking someone I vaguely know who has large transit van to
help, and offering =A31 a minute.
Job will prolly take 3+ hours to do from start to finish, and so will
pay approx =A3200.
Is that OK, or am I being too generous?

Consider offering price per mile for use of the van and diesel - say a
generouus £1 per mile = £60 - and then a labour rate of £10-£15 per
hour. £45
Comes in at a much more reasonable £105

It may mean you have to do it on your own without the van!

You might allow some extra time in case of traffif delays or blistering
weather which will slow you both down.

It's in the right ball park. But you may find a 'professional'
man and Van will do it for less.

That's interesting - but prob is that I'm kind of in the middle of
nowhere, and there's a lack of these guys advertising their services,
otherwise yes I'd investigate this option.

Sounds way over the top. Last time I moved (7 years ago) I got two men with a van for
£19 an hour. Did a good job too.

so did I (25 quid).
Now the one man wanted 60 quid for an hour. I think that
this market has moved up a bit, there are probably more
'other' jobs around

Obtain a fixed price for the job, then they won't be tempted to prolong the
job.

ps - Just found a local "man/van" ad, and got a =A3190 quote which is
good I think, and am going for it.
